NEW LOOK FOR LOCAL STORE

Following reports of its potential closure last year, the McColl’s chain eventually filed for bankruptcy in May 2022 putting 1,100 shops and 16,000 jobs at risk. However, shortly after the announcement Morrisons declared that it had bought the chain out of administration, saving all jobs and branches.

The local branch of McColl’s in Fleet has been looking a bit worse for wear recently, especially after it was damaged during a robbery in July last year when the doors were smashed. The damage was never repaired to the building and still remains the same today. Now though, the temporary closure, which will run from the 3rd – 17th November, will see it being given a much needed facelift as it is renamed and rebranded as a Morrison’s Daily store. The rebrand of the chain will see 700 of the old style shops converted to the new Morrisons brand by the end of 2023.

The post office inside the store will remain, much to the relief of local residents but it will be slightly smaller than before with just the current walled-in section remaining, possibly reducing its ability to accept larger packages. It will though have extended opening hours with the branch planning to open until 10pm at night.

The company is already looking for a store manager for the new look business with plans to have someone in place for mid December, so if you’re looking for a new full time position you might want to consider applying for the position!
