FIVE MINUTE READ – NEWS ON THE GO!

FESTIVITIES CANCELLED

Sad but not unexpected news today as it has been confirmed that the Fireworks Fiesta in November and the Fleet Christmas Festivities have both had to be cancelled due to the Covid crisis this year.

Fleet Lions announced the cancellation of the popular bonfire night event on their website:

Meanwhile Mike Collen from the Fleet Christmas Festivities committee commented on the cancellation of the December events:

“As a volunteer group we couldn’t put on an event as before due to restrictions, no choirs, live music, social distancing etc and stewarding of the event. Financing would have been impossible. With pedestrianisation of the High Street  coming we had to make a final decision especially with growing worries of the forthcoming spike. We couldn’t manage controlled tracing needs, It would have been irresponsible to run it. “

So the end of 2020 is starting to look very much like the beginning of it, with closures and cancelled events. If you want a taste of Christmas in Fleet this year, take a look at our article and videos from the 2019 Festivities and maybe enjoy your own Christmas countdown from home.

Here’s hoping that 2021 is a better year for everyone.

**UPDATE – YOU CAN STILL SEE SANTA!**

There is some good news though as you can still see Santa in December, just be ready and waiting!
