There’s welcome news for all running fans today, as Fleet and Crookham AC have confirmed they will be staging their popular 5K and 10K road races this year. The events are scheduled for 30th October 2022 and will be starting at 9.30am from the Harlington Centre.

The first race was held back in 1972 and was created in memory of Peter Driver, a gold medalist in the 6 mile event at the Empire Games (now known as the Commonwealth games) in 1954. Peter moved to Fleet in 1961 and joined Fleet and Crookham Athletic Club in 1962, helping to improve and enlarge the club.
The course has changed over the years but one thing remains – the hard work and dedication by the volunteers of the club to ensure its continuation and to make sure that it remains an event that is “organised by runners, for runners”.

The races will follow the familiar and well-supported town centre route of previous years and are sponsored this year by local businesses, Bodyreset Clinic and Selbons Estate Agents, along with Run Company Woking.
The volunteer committee have been working hard behind the scenes for the last couple of months and will be continuing their efforts in the approach to race day. The races are well-known for the friendly marshals that provide a vital role on the day so please do get in touch if you are able to lend a hand.

The race organisers will once again be offering generous prizes, donated by the sponsors of the event, for overall and age category winners. With a combined race limit of 1200 and entry fees of only £18 for the 10K and £10 for the 5K (£16/£8 for affiliated runners) entries are sure to fill up fast, so don’t leave it too late!
If you are looking for support and company with your running, contact local organising club Fleet and Crookham AC to find out more about group training and club nights – you’ll be sure of a warm welcome!
If you’d like to put your name down for either event, race entries are now open. Please visit the official website here if you’d like to volunteer, as well as for further information entry details.
