FLEET CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES 2019
WEDNESDAY 27th NOVEMBER
The arrival of the tree in Gurkha Square heralded the start of Christmas in Fleet today, as the high street starts to prepare for the upcoming Festivities evening next Wednesday 27th November.

WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN’S RIDES?
It was previously noted that there would be more of a focus on the market stalls this year, with the usual popular children’s funfair rides all initially being refused permission to attend the event. However, this has not proven to be a popular decision with many local families, as they asked for the rides to be reinstated, saying that the event would simply not be as much fun for younger children without the popular attractions.
Since then, there have been discussions with the organisers of the Festivities as well as with Southern Market Traders, about the possibility of fitting in some of the rides again in a (hopeful) festive spirit of compromise. Although there appears to have been some confusion with local shop owners, who seem to believe that at least two rides would be featuring in the annual event, it has been now been confirmed that one ride has been given permission to attend.

This has been confirmed on the Festivities website listing, which lists the single ‘Children’s Ride’ (which will be near Prezzo), in amongst other activities such as soft play and an activity marquee.

Although not exactly the result many would be hoping for, it will join the list of some other items brought back due to popular demand this year, including the Elvis tribute performance in the Hart centre, as well as Dogmersfield school choir, which has now been given space on the main outdoor stage with the other schools.
The organisers of the event have stated they will ‘closely monitor feedback from the public and businesses in the high street’.
The privately run funfair for teenagers and adults will be in the Emporium car park as usual.
A full list of other available children’s activities on the night can be found here.
