GREEN BIN SERVICE OPEN TO NEW SUBSCRIBERS
NEWS ON THE GO!
When covid hit us, many local services were understandably interrupted or cancelled for safety reasons. One of these was the green (garden waste) bin collections which was cancelled, leaving a rather large problem in lockdown…in the form of a giant waste mountain.
Despite other areas having their services resumed at a later date, there was a delay in returning to the paid for services in the Hart area. This led to anger and frustration amongst residents and a disappointing but familiar silence from the Councillors in charge of the scheme.
When services were finally reinstated, it was made clear that anyone who had an expired subscription (subject to an extension during the suspension of services), or any new customers, would not be allowed to join or re-join the scheme. Notices sent out to current subscribers stated:
“You must renew before your subscription expires if you would like to continue using the service. This year you will not be able to re-join the service as we are not accepting new subscribers at the moment. This is so we minimise the risk of needing to suspend the service again”.
However in yet another about-turn, Hart District Council announced tonight that new subscribers and those with lapsed accounts, will be able to sign up for the scheme again from 10am on August 3rd. Better get in there quick before they change their minds again.
