CURRENTLY ATTEMPTING TO BREAK INTO AREA

Travellers are currently attempting to gain illegal access to the Park and Ride on Elvetham Heath. Police have been informed and are on their way, it is advised that you avoid or don’t approach the area if possible.

As this is an ongoing situation, updates will be posted as information is received.

** UPDATE **

Updated 4.10pm – The travellers gained access to the area by avoiding the barriers and driving over the grass and through a hedge, causing some damage. Councillor Steve Forster has attended the scene with police…

I’ve just been to the park and ride at Elvetham Heath after reporting the incursion of travellers. I can confirm the police are here and speaking with them. I’ve spoken with the officers who responded very quickly.

They’ve urged residents not to take any action and confirmed that the land owner has been notified and will be asked to commence immediate action to get them removed. The individuals are known to the police. There has been some minor damage caused in entry so that will be considered.

I’d like to thank those residents who contacted me and other councillors and reported it to the authorities, enabling a quick response – the land owner (Calthorpe Estates) now needs to take the appropriate steps. They will keep aware. If anyone witnesses any further anti social behaviour please do report it to 101.

Hart council officers will need to consider and likely take further proactive action – I’m concerned that Hart’s cabinet did not apparently want to implement an order to prohibit this type of issue (as has been carried out by neighbouring authorities) due to the cost however I, and colleagues, will continue to press for this. Travellers need to understand that there are approved council locations elsewhere for travellers and they must be used.
