TWO SURGERIES TO MERGE IN 2023
In a surprise announcement today, Fleet Medical Centre has stated that it will be merging with Branksomewood Healthcare Centre in April 2023.
The move comes amid a national shortage of doctors and as some of the Branksomewood partners have decided to step down. This would result in a situation where the remaining members of the partnership would be unable to cope alone and is one of the stated reasons for the new joint venture.

Although the announcement seeks to reassure those registered with the two surgeries that they will retain their familiar GPs, it has caused understandable concern amongst local residents. But the information given certainly seems to suggest that without the move, Branksomewood may not have had a future at all.
The news can be seen on both medical service websites, where they list the following leaflet for further information:
Latest figures from Public Health England show that Branksomewood Healthcare Centre has 13,440 registered patients and Fleet Medical Centre has 14,664. This means that once combined, the joint service will be dealing with over 28,000 patients, more than three times the average for a practice in England.
