READING ROAD CRASH

BREATH TEST REFUSED

A teenage driver has been arrested after a crash in Fleet High Street. The crash occurred on 31st July around 11.30pm. The teenager, who had been travelling in a white Ford Fiesta Zetec crashed into a bus stop on Reading Road South, causing substantial damage.

Both the car and the bus stop were damaged but neither the driver or his two passengers were injured. The driver was arrested for failing to provide a breath test when requested at the the scene of the crash.

There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in Fleet lately as well as night time racing and under the influence driving. Unfortunately with the lack of police availability, there is often little that can be done about it. There has however, been a call for CSPO’s in town, to help with issues locally and to patrol Fleet.

An increased CSPO (Community Safety Patrol Officer) presence could provide a valuable link between the community and the police while tackling issues such as parking, littering and (as reported recently), late night loud gatherings in local car parks. Councillor Steve Forster is keen to see this happen and says “I’m keen to see this at least trialled for a year in Hart – especially with the proposed pedestrianisation.” Councillor Forster has been requesting this for around 6 months now but members of Hart District Council have rejected the proposals.

So with anti-social problems in Fleet increasing substantially lately, would you like to see Community Safety Patrol Officers patrolling Fleet?

UPDATE – MONDAY 3rd AUGUST

Now you see it…now you don’t. The ruined bus stop is removed from Reading Road South. Well look on the bright side, Chutneys get to take a few good photos of their takeaway and enjoy the view before it goes back again…
