A BIG BLOW FOR FLEET
It’s not the greatest news for the High Street today as Argos joins its many predecessors by closing up and saying goodbye to Fleet. There had been talk of the store closing after the Covid closure but this has now been confirmed as the store has cleared out and moved onto pastures new as its lease ended.
Below: Argos in Fleet closes.
The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as many Argos stores are moving into local Sainsbury’s branches – unfortunately Fleet’s is a little small for that, so our local branch now appears to be in Farnborough (Sainsbury’s).
The move comes after other recent closures including Loaf, Age UK, and Truly Scrumptious amongst others, although there have been some recent arrivals too. With the High Street undergoing pedestrianisation measures and the face of Fleet continuing to change, just where are the owners of the Hart Centre and how involved are they in investing in the future of Fleet?
The answer appears to be a rather deafening silence.
