NEWLY DESIGNED STORE OPENS TODAY

Rumours about the relocation of Izzy have been floating around for quite some time in Fleet but it wasn’t until last month that we finally saw movement as the business began to make its move across the road to the old Iceland store.

The move wasn’t by choice though, as the owners of 166 Fleet Road appeared to have other plans for their building, forcing the Izzy owners to find a new base for its general goods store. There has been some speculation over the future of the unit but as the recent application for planning permission shows, the trend for adding more flats in Fleet Road appears to be the main reason for the obviously profitable move.

Ditching the old “Izzy” identity, the new shop has rebranded itself as “Fleet Essentials and DIY Store”, marking a slight change of direction in the products the shop will sell, something that was influenced by the closure of Bakers last year. Not only will DIY products be on sale in the new shop but the owners have made sure they sought expert advice on the new section by employing the services of a previous staff member of Bakers to help guide them on providing the best products for the local community. Future plans include adding a series of power tools and other additions to the current range. There is also an area for those who like to extend their DIY skills outside, with a gardening goods section.

The brightly coloured toy aisles are likely to be a hit with local families and if you are a crafter or a knitter then this section is bound to be a firm favourite with a huge range of choice all on your doorstep.

It has been a long wait for the opening of the new store and the final touches are still being added but despite the lack of a few price tags and the odd empty shelf or two, the first impression is definitely a good one, allowing local residents to purchase a range of useful goods without having to shop elsewhere…something Fleet is very much in need of.

With soft furnishings, storage solutions, a huge kitchen and cookware range as well as cleaning products and a lot more, the newly designed shop covers a lot of ground and is its hard to think of someone who wouldn’t want to pop in there at some point for an essential purchase or two.
