EMERGENCY HIGH STREET CLOSURE

Confirmation has been received of the closure of Fleet High Street over the Christmas period, but before panic sets in, it’s only for repairs to take place.

The emergency works are to fix a collapsed sewer outside Subway and will be carried out by Thames Water. They are to take place from the 21st December and are hoped to take a maximum of five days. The closure order does allow a period of up to 21 days to allow for possible delays and issues but this isn’t considered a likely option.

Councillor Steve Forster stated: “Hart officers have confirmed with HCC and Thames Water that this cannot be delayed due to risk. The diversion route is on approved roads and does not include Albert Street. The closed section is near Subway/Pizza Express as engineers will likely be digging a big hole in the road up to 3m deep. Shops should be open as normal (subject to their Xmas hours). Please do visit locally – all car parks are open as usual.”
