A SAD GOODBYE TO A FAMILIAR FACE
There was a sad announcement today as the Edinburgh Woollen Mill, who owns the chain of Peacocks stores (as well as Jaeger), announced that it was to appoint administrators for the struggling business. The stores, which have been hit hard by the coronavirus lockdowns – and includes the Peacocks shop in Fleet – all now face “significant cuts and closures.
There was some speculation last week when a ‘”To Let” sign was seen on the front of the Fleet branch of Peacocks, just before it was mysteriously taken down again. At the time it was thought to involve lease issues, although with the announcement today it now appears it was just a premature move. Sadly staff have just found out today that the store will be closing down for good and have put up closing down sale signs.

The staff at the Peacocks store said that they hadn’t had any new stock deliveries since March at the beginning of lockdown and were just making do with the items they had in their current stockroom, above the shop. No official last date has been given at this time but if you’d like one last look at your local Peacocks, you’d better get there pretty soon. At this this one can’t be blamed on the closure of Fleet Road.
