IZZY…OR IZZY NOT…?
With the ongoing move of Izzy in Fleet, questions are being asked about 166 Fleet Road, the building the business will be leaving behind…and if it will soon house a new occupant.
The answer is yes…and no. In fact the familiar current building that we know, looks set to be a thing of the past to make room for a four storey design that will convert the majority of the building into flats (yes more flats…). It will also be leaving retail space on the ground floor to at least retain the look of a High Street, rather than an ever-growing mini housing estate.

The plans proposed actually incorporate the back of the building next door – number 164 Fleet Road, which has already got permission to build a four storey rear extension, allowing up to seven “self contained units”…aka flats, adding to the ever growing total of residential properties in the vicinity of Fleet Road.

The four floors of plans show how the designs squeeze every last inch of space from the new building, resulting in a 24 unit complex that will offer a range of units from 1 – 3 bedrooms which will be accessed from Branksomewood Road.

With a central courtyard, refuse area and an “undercroft” parking area, the plans are just waiting for the final i’s to be dotted and t’s to be crossed before the transformation begins and the number of residents in Fleet Road start to outweigh the number of shop owners…if they don’t already.
