FANTASTIC FLEET FAYRES…FLOPS
NEWS ON THE GO!
Fleet Town Council’s plans for two ‘Fantastic Fleet Fayres’ suffered from the heat today as residents and stall holders both seem equally unimpressed, albeit for different reasons.
The first of the ‘Fayres’, announced on Facebook and followed up by a local leaflet drop, was held in Gurkha Square and featured a range of artisan and food stalls with what looked like quite an impressive line up.

Stallholders were most unhappy with the low turnout though, which saw food stalls throwing goods away at the end of the day, while others didn’t wait around long enough to lose out further than they already had.
The low turnout appears to have been less about the market itself though and more about bad timing and lack of advertising to local residents. With temperatures hitting 30° C and families already busy with school holidays and bank holiday BBQs, many were unable or unwilling to take a wander round Gurkha Square and those that might have been, simply didn’t know it was on. There was also some confusion with the name, as people and market traders alike spoke of their belief that it would be more of a “fun day” style event, than just a market.
Still, we live and learn and the few people that did make it there seem to be quite happy with the goods on offer, so if you missed out this time, why not give it another go and mark the 13th October on the calendar. At least it wont be quite as warm then.
