FLEET TOWN COUNCIL MOVES FORWARDS

TWO NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM FTC

LIVESTREAMED MEETINGS

There are some changes on the horizon tonight after a Fleet Town Council meeting that saw a couple of rather large changes put in place. As reported recently, Councillor Steve Forster attended the meeting as a local resident and put forward a question that many have requested…

“FTC are not streaming the live council meetings despite it being extremely simple to stream Teams. It’s notable that meetings are now recorded by FTC but not published or streamed.

Why are FTC not currently publishing the recordings or live streaming, and can this be done for next month (as it’s too late for today!) and thereafter.”

The answer to this seems to be a positive one as FTC confirm they are looking into trialing the live stream meetings and if all goes well, may look to do this from October. Great news for Fleet!

Councillor Steve Forster comments “I was delighted that FTC are going to be live streaming. People want to see what their councillors do. I’m very disappointed that Hart currently isn’t planning to change its policy of deleting all its public recordings within 24 hrs, although it plans to in future – so I hope FTCs will be kept in a public archive in YouTube, like Hampshires and many, many other district councils.”

NEW COUNCILLOR

But that’s not the only news tonight as a new Councillor has been appointed to Fleet Town Council. The vacancy was advertised in advance for 14 days but as ten registered electors from the Central Ward did not come forward to request a by-election the decision was passed to FTC and after interviewing the two applicants tonight, they made a decision…and Councillor Ruth Hill will now be joining the hallowed ranks of FTC.

Ruth commented: “I’m excited for this opportunity and am passionate about Fleet and building a sense of community.”

So it’s great news for Fleet tonight as we wish our new local Councillor a huge congratulations and look forward to seeing more of her in the future. A good night all round for Fleet!
