AS ONE DOOR CLOSES IN FLEET – TWO MORE OPEN
NEW BUSINESSES SET TO OPEN FOR NEW YEAR
THE OPENING OF (ANOTHER) NEW PUB
As we see one door close with a sad farewell to Solent Cleaners in Fleet, we are about to see two new doors opening in the High Street.
It may come as little surprise to hear that the new doors come in the form of a pub and a restaurant as the changing face of Fleet Road continues its gradual transformation into more of an entertainment venue.
The first of the new businesses will finally be filling the boots of the old Hart House pub, which vanished rather suddenly back in June. Since then, there have been rumours about a new pub chain taking over the premises and it now looks like Urban Pubs will be the proud new owners of the cavernous premises.
Urban Pubs certainly have their own style and with so much space to play around in, it’s easy to see how their design will be absorbed into the Fleet nightlife. The pub was due to open months ago in time for Christmas and we still don’t have an exact date but it seems like it will be a 2020 opening now.

The pub will be called “The Village – At Fleet” (just in case you didn’t know where you were) and has applied for planning permission to change from A3 use (Restaurants and Cafes) to A4 (Drinking Establishments). They will also be putting up a new shelter in the rear of the building and installing a snazzy new illuminated sign at the front…hopefully they might leave it on after 1am, when all the street lights are switched off…
Below: New illuminated exterior pub sign plans
It doesn’t look as though they will be altering the colour of the building but there are plans to add a pergola, possibly as an outside smoking area?, as well as jazzing up the inside of the building, adding a few touches to make it feel like home. For those interested in the finer details, here you go:

So when the pub does finally open its doors, you’ll know exactly what to expect…maybe. Could this be the business to finally set up a permanent home in the old ASK restaurant? Take a peek here to see the previous occupants of this address in our history archives.
THERE’S A NEW RESTAURANT IN TOWN
The second new visitor to Fleet is described as a “high class restaurant” and looks to be a combination of restaurant/cafe/drinking establishment with live dancing. Make of that what you will. It’s unclear what type of food they may serve but this is a new venture that will see a replacement of Toni & Guy Hairdressers and Fratellis cafe, joining the two at 259 – 261 Fleet Road.

The new restaurant will be called Fleet Kitchen (yes..I know we already had one of those before but it’s a new kitchen…in a new place). They applied for change of use to the building (from A1 Shop to A3 Restaurant) in July and plan to be active both during daylight and evening hours. One huge bonus for parents is the small children’s play area that they plan to include, allowing you to grab a bite to eat and relax for five minutes in peace!
The opening hours for Fleet Kitchen will be 8am – 11pm every day including Sundays and Bank Holidays so there will be plenty of time to sample its delights. It also looks like this will now be a 2020 opening so watch this space – we’ll update it if we hear more!
