HART TO HOME AFGHAN FAMILIES

The recent situation in Afghanistan which has seen the US and UK pulling their troops out of the region, has created a mass exodus of civilians as they try to escape the new Taliban led regime.

The UK has agreed to take on 20,000 Afghan refugees, with 5000 being resettled here in the first year, although that number could double.

On the back of the announcement, Hart District Council has put out a press release today stating that they have agreed to rehome two Afghan families in the Hart area in conjunction with VIVID Housing. It is not believed that those who relocate to the UK will be going back to Afghanistan and after five years residence, will be able to apply for permanent residence in the UK free of charge.

Please see the press release below for more details:

The announcement has seen a mixed reaction from local residents, with some welcoming the move, while others have expressed concerns over safety and questioned the financial impact this will have.
