Please be on the lookout for a new email scam, claiming to be from HM Courts and Tribunal Service. The email will feature your name as the registered keeper of a vehicle (often your full name to look more official) and ask for a penalty fee of £25. You will also note that the phone number they provide is noted as “temporarily unavailable”…clear sign of a fake email. The email it uses is “firstname.lastname@example.org” and the subject will be something like “Your Fixed Penalty Notice Ref:19283891222”.
The trouble is of course, the claim for – “the use of a vehicle on a road in the charging area which a charging scheme applies” – isn’t very clear and will cause instant worry for some people as they will wonder if it’s true or not, the email looks quite convincing. As it’s a small amount of money there will be many who just pay it without thinking…a nice little earner for the scammers behind the email. Don’t pay!!
