Hart Police Warn of Phone Call Fraud

FRAUDSTERS DEMAND MONEY VIA PHONE

A warning was given out today of fraudsters that are trying to extract money via a Hart wide phone call scam.

Below: Advice from Hart Rural Police

They tell them that they are trying to battle fraud, and need to come and collect some money that they will use to open a bank account on behalf of the Police. The amount is normally in the thousands of pounds, and the caller states that they will send someone to collect it.

As you’re probably expecting by now, there is no Police, no attempt to battle fraud or open a bank account, and the money is taken and disappears, never to be seen by the resident again.

Police will NEVER ask you for money, no matter how big or small. Likewise, we won’t ask for any personal details over the phone, especially details that could be used to clone your identity.

If someone attends your address claiming to be a Police officer, we’ll always be carrying an identification or warrant card and will never have a problem with you challenging us to see it.

If we’re at your door, you can close the door and contact 101 with our name and collar number to ensure that we are who we say we are. If you ask someone at your door for this and they either refuse or get annoyed about it, they’re not genuine!
