SUBJECT: LOCAL DEVELOPMENT

Dear For Fleets Sake!

Firstly, can I say what an excellent job you are doing highlighting local issues and that the local councillors (bar a few who wish not to be involved (!) are doing in addressing these.

One of my main concerns is the constant development to the area and surrounding areas. Developers are given first refusal on land and vacant property and we are slowly losing the quaintness that made the area great. Rabbit warren housing estates are being built and along with them we are seeing increased crime being reported through social media in particular.

Local facilities are full to bursting point. We have not developed more schools, surgeries or even a decent shopping centre to cope with the expansion. Not to mention the station has no parking in the mornings after a certain time and local transport is even more shocking (but that’s a whole other post). Instead we have more pubs, which in itself we know brings late night issues in the area.

I’d like to see a halt on any further development of housing estates and the loss of farms, countryside and green land to any more concrete jungles. This not only has the above impact, but an impact on the wildlife too.

We need an increased police presence in the area with a manned 24 x 7 station, along with a total stop on developments locally.

I don’t want us to lose what made Fleet great, the quaintness, the history, the pond, the green land and the local facilities and landmarks.

Please stop building around, surrounding and in Fleet. Restore the old buildings, keep Fleets identity.

Ruth
