DRINK DRUG DRIVER
In the early hours of April 22nd 2019 a young man in his 20s was crossing the road in Fleet when he was hit by a blue Vauxhall Corsa driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver, 22 year old Patrick Devon Langley from Ascot was speeding along the stretch of Fleet Road while under the influence of drink and drugs, causing life changing injuries to the victim in the collision.

He pled guilty yesterday at Winchester Crown Court to a charge of ‘serious injury by dangerous driving’ and has now been jailed for 30 months, disqualified from driving for 51 months and also has to take another test after that period expires to get his licence back.

Some will see this as a lenient sentence which resulted in a young man from Farnborough having to live with the consequences of the accident for the rest of his life which included serious injuries to both his head and arm.
PC Timothy Pierce from Hampshire Constabulary said this after the sentencing:
“It is a miracle that nobody else was seriously injured or killed, as there were numerous other pedestrians in and around the road while Langley was driving in this appalling manner.
Due to his actions and total disregard for the safety of other roads users, the pedestrian sustained devastating, life-changing injuries.
“Due to the completely selfish and thoughtless actions of Langley, the victim, his family and friends will now have to live with the catastrophic consequences of this incident for the rest of their lives.
I hope this case will once again highlight the responsibility that falls on all drivers to drive their vehicles safely and with due regard to all other road users.
The consequences of dangerous driving, along with drink and drug-driving, are all too clear to see.”
