SUMMARY

Longleys was a shop that sold clothes for children up to about age 8, women’s clothes from under to outer wear, haberdashery, fabrics and bedding. Dates are unknown but is is believed to have existed until the mid-late 1970s.

“Longley Bros. was established in 1908 by my grandfather Arthur Longley, in 1908, in premises located on Reading Road South. At some point prior to the 1939 National Registration, they moved to 271 Fleet Road (now 335). Arthur Longley died in December 1955 and the sole proprietorship was taken over by his son, Kenneth Longley. He died in July 1963 and so the business passed to his widow, Kathleen, who had already been active and involved in the business for many years. Kathleen remarried in 1971 and sold the business within a few years.” – Chris Longley
