FLEET FIREWORKS DRAW IN THE CROWDS
As yet another year rolls by and the sound of fireworks fill the air, it has people asking…is it time to consider silent fireworks?
Fleet Lions is a popular local display which is always a crowd pleaser, especially for many who have missed local events due to covid cancellations. It was also noted however, that the display seemed to be louder than ever this year.

There are two very distinct schools of thought when it comes to silent fireworks. Those who are against the idea, usually complain that people are just moaning, or trying to spoil their fun. On the other side of the coin though, the frequency and amount of fireworks grows every year, with weddings, birthdays and various other events now seeming to be an acceptable excuse to put on a loud light show, something which leads to extreme distress to pets, wildlife and even humans.
Sadly every year brings not only a pretty light show but stories of the deaths of animals and the suffering of people with conditions like PTSD and dementia. In some countries such as Italy, silent fireworks have been embraced, offering the chance to set impressive displays to music – something which is surely more impressive than a few loud bangs, so can Fleet follow the lead and embrace a new kind of display?

With an impressive display as always and a huge crowd attending the show, Fleet Lions will be able to top up their resources after a year where covid put an end to crowd events. The Lions do amazing work in our local community and always pull out all the stops for the popular weekend event…but in a residential area and with such distress being caused, perhaps there is room for compromise next year with an even more impressive display set to music?
